Tests of Divisibility

  • Take first natural number 1. 1 divides all the numbers.
  • Next number 2, 2 divides all even numbers & zero.
  • Then 3, we know 3 divides 3,6,9,...27,30,...126.Here sum of digits of 27 is 2+7=9 which is divided by 3. So 27 is divided by 3. Like this 126 (sum of digits 9) is divided by 3.
  • In general,
  • A NUMBER is divisible by 2 if its units place digit is even or 0. E.g 4,16,20 etc. A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of its individual digits is divisible by 3.
    e.g 27,72,372.
  • A number is divisible by 4 if the last two digits are together 0 or if the number formed by the last two digits is divisible by 4. e.g 100,1824,52936.
  • A number is divisible by 5 if the units place is either 5 or 0. e.g 60,585,6380.
  • A number is divisible by 6 if it is divisible by both 2 & 3.
  • A number is divisible by 8 if it is divisible by both 2 and 4.
  • A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of its individual digits is divisible by 9.
  • A number is divisible by 10 if its units place is 0.GET IT?
